Please help me welcome the talented Thea   to the Heart 2 Heart interview post today. I hope you will enjoy meeting her and reading about her latest release Rapture Recaptured.

Business before Pleasure:

1. What inspired you to write your first book?

My first book was a biography about my grandfather who started the first condom factory in this country. This was in 1900 and his colourful life inspired me, the book is called; “The French Letter King.”

 2. How much real life do you put into or influences your books?

I believe that all author spit at least some of themselves into their books, and I’m no exception. In my fiction books, alot of the scenes come from real life, although I’m not telling which ones are which!

3. What is the hardest part of writing for you?

Without a doubt, the ending. Even if I know how I want the book to end, I still find it difficult to wind the whole story up with a satisfying ending.

4. What are your current projects?

I have just completed an erotic romance ” Rapture Recaptured” , which siren has published and am writing another called ” Sensuous Secrets” , after that I am planning a Psychological thriller.

5. How do you go about choosing the title for your book(s)?

I usually have a working title from the beginning which encapsulates what I think my book is going to be about. However, as the book progresses and different themes take precedence, I might change the title, I believe it has to have total relevance to the main theme of the book.

6. What is your favorite genre to write?

I like erotica, its fun,and titillating. However psychological thrillers are my favourite.

7. Generally, how long does it take you to complete a book from idea to handing it over to your publisher.

Usually three to six months.

8. Do you ever use someone in your life as a sounding board for ideas or do you prefer to work alone?

I wrote my first couple of books in a writing club, online and the other members were sounding boards, now, I may ask a great friend of mine who’s also an author, or sometimes one of my two daughters , because they can give a younger perspective.

9. Do your travel to research for your book(s)?

I did for the biography, in order to research the local library, library and people in the area where my grandfather lived. Otherwise I set my books in places I know and have already travelled to, I have been to alot of places! If there is something specialised in the book, I may go to a relevant place in order to collate all the correct information.

10. Did you learn anything while writing your book(s)?

I learned alot. In “No Refuge” much of the action took place in a sex club. I learned a great deal about deviant sexual practices, and how the clubs operate. In Rapture Recaptured I learned alittle about the electronics industry and”The French Letter King” taught me a great deal of Welsh history.

 11. Have you ever had an idea for a book but never written it and what is it?

Yes, I would like to write about two children who meet at a very young age, around three, and immediately bond. I would like to explore the ideas of soul mates and reincarnation.

 12. When writing, do you have a process?

To be honest, I just write. I get in front of my iPad and away I go. I usually write a chapter at a time.

13. Do you have any advice for new authors looking to make their own literary statement?

Yes, quite simple …don’t give up! There are so many obstacles, such as motivation, impetus, ideas, editing, getting published and of course an element of luck. If your book is in the right place at the right time. So just keep on trying and be determined.

14. How many books have you written? Do you have a particular favorite?

I have written about eight books, but so far only three are published. I, personally like my series of crime and psychological thrillers, but the market is oversubscribed. Rapture Recaptured is one of my favourite books, because it’s so real.

15. Why did you choose to use a publisher instead of self-publishing?

Three main reasons: editing, cost and marketing. In addition a traditional publisher has actually liked your book enough to publish it.This is an accolade. Your publisher knows the best market for your book and can market it. They use an editor, who you work with to edit your book, and the publisher bears all the cost.

Although, I do not rile our self-publishing, and have read some brilliant self-published books.

16. Where do your ideas come from?

Anywhere. I love people watching. I saw a couple on their sixties in a restaurant, holding hands and gazing at each other, this started me off on ” Rapture Recaptured ” about the chemistry and sexuality between two sixty something’s, and their love story.

17. How many books do you currently have published?

Three: ” The French Letter King * (The Horton), Rapture Recaptured ” (Thea Phillips and No Refuge (Thea Hartley).

 18. Are you working on anything right now?

Yes, almost finished “Sensuous Secrets” another erotic romance and started on a Psychological thriller.

19. Do you have a favorite Hero or Heroine from any of your books and why?

I think Anna from”Rapture Recaptured” is a feisty, sexy woman, who has been constrained in many ways by her family, but finally finds the courage to be herself.

20. Do you have anything you would like to say to your current readers or to those that haven’t yet read your work(s)?

To my current readers; thank you for your support and I hope you will continue to read my work. I promise I will try to make it even better. To those who haven’t read my books, please try them, you are in for a treat!

About Your Latest Release

Introduce us to the main characters: Anna and Rick.

How do these two meet?

On an internet dating site.

How would you characterize their relationship in one word answers, start, middle and end?

 Attraction… chemistry… sizzling.

What three words would you use to describe this story?

Sexy, sizzling , romantic.

Anna 59, and Rick 62, meet on an Internet dating site. Anna has been widowed for three years and Rick is divorced.

He is currently on a ‘break’ from a destructive relationship. They discover that they have a remarkable sexual chemistry and embark on an erotic affair. Rick’s ‘ex’ girlfriend tries to seduce him.  Anna, knowing her salacious reputation, becomes jealous, fearing Rick will dump her, and the ex will succeed. He reassures Anna that this is not the case by pleasuring her in an amazing, sensuous sex session. Anna’s children disapprove of their relationship, believing that she should give up dating at her age. Despite the opposition, Rick and Anna are blissfully happy until Rick receives the news that his brother is seriously ill.

Rick has to fly to Boston to run the family business. He quickly realises that he will have to relocate there for at least two years. Reluctantly, Anna and Rick decide to end their relationship due to the impossibility of continuing it when they are thousands of miles apart. In Boston, Rick works extremely long hours. However, he still finds time to think of Anna especially in erotic fantasies. Eventually he has a date with a fun loving sexy divorcee which backfires and makes him realise how much he loves and desires Anna. Rick decides to return to the UK for a week in order to persuade her to join him in the States.

Meanwhile, Anna, now lonelier than ever, starts a relationship with Tony. She finds him boring, with none of the chemistry, sexual excitement or expertise she experienced with Rick. However, she believes this is what she must settle for.

Rick returns and visits Anna’s apartment …only to see her with Tony. He believes he has lost his chance with Anna and decides to return to the States as soon as possible. Anna’s friend, Sara, tells her she has bumped into Rick.  Anna is shocked, yet ecstatic. Involuntarily, she drives to Rick’s apartment where they have an overwhelmingly erotic reconciliation.

Anna promises to consider going back to Boston with Rick. She ends her relationship with Tony and tells her daughter of her plans. Her children are outraged. They want her to stay in England with her family, and help with the grand kids. Will Anna end her relationship with Rick or will she take a chance on love?

Rick had tried Internet dating previously, and had failed miserably.

He was sixty-two years old and divorced. He had been on his own for four years now, and didn’t really like it. A workaholic for many years, he had finally cut down on his work commitments after developing a stress ulcer, and found that a lot of time hung on his hands.

His ex-wife Myra had upped and left him a month after their youngest boy had left college.

“I’ve been waiting all these years as a wife and mom to find myself…and now I finally can,” she had announced one April day. The next thing he knew she had hotfooted it to some spiritual retreat where she could meditate and do whatever necessary to become fulfilled.

Apparently, this included getting as much money off Rick as possible, and the financial implications were heavy. The large family house where they had brought up their two boys had to be sold, and Rick now lived in a small apartment near town.

He had hated it at first, used to his garden and all the space. Now, however, he found it easy to look after, cozy, and handy for the shops. He had his own parking bay, so there was no fighting for a space.

Myra had remarried shortly after the divorce was finalized to a Reiki healer and they lived in a mountain retreat.

Rick had only dated properly once in the four years since being on his own. She was a local woman who had made him feel worse about himself rather than better, always picking fault with everything, and she most definitely did not like sex. They had dated on and off for about eleven months, and were now on a “break “permanently by the look of it. His Internet meetings had been with desperate women who made him run a mile, and his few one-night stands had been unsatisfactory. He wanted sex, yes, but he wanted a woman he liked. One which he desired, and could talk to…not just a meaningless body. Lately he had made do by wanking in bed, whilst thinking of film stars or faceless women with large tits. However, Rick really did want to meet a real woman, especially as it was coming up to the Christmas season again and he hated the thought of spending it totally alone once more.

He had sat at his PC on Friday evening and up had popped the profile of Anna Richmond, fifty-nine. Dark haired and attractive, she had a lovely smile and said she enjoyed reading, walking, theatre, and socializing. Much like myself, he thought.

They began emailing and had agreed to meet tonight in Ziannis Italian restaurant at seven thirty p.m. in the bar. He reserved a table for two, and dressed up in a smart, casual outfit of dark jeans, pale blue shirt, and suede jacket. Then off he went, anxious to meet his date and see if this could be the start of something.

Anna arrived first

She sat on the curved sofa in the bar area and surreptitiously studied the menu whilst sipping a glass of tonic water. She wore a black knee-length dress with a scoop neckline, accessorized with a crystal pendant. Smart, yet discreet. Flesh-colored stockings and high-heeled black shoes completed the look. Her hair was chin length, straight and glossy.

A man entered a few minutes after she sat down. He looked around and spotted her. Smiling, he had joined her on the sofa.

“Anna?”  He asked, and she nodded and said ““Rick?”

He was good-looking with sandy-Gray hair and blue eyes. His face bore the wrinkles of time, but in a good way, making him look ruggedly handsome. He wore a blue shirt that emphasized his eye colour, which Anna thought was a good choice.

They moved to a table and Rick ordered a bottle of Pinot Gigi after consulting her.

They sipped their drinks whilst studying the menu.

Rick decided on steak in pepper sauce, whilst Anna had lasagna. They both refused starters, preferring, they said, to have a sweet. They laughed at this commonality, then later shared a large strawberry sundae.

The talk flowed between them during the meal. They talked about children, grandchildren—although not too much—and then films, plays, books, etcetera, discovering that they liked a lot of the same things.

Anna told Rick about Jim dying three years ago. She said it was a sudden heart attack while playing golf, but didn’t go into details.

Rick explained that he and Myra had divorced four years ago. He didn’t say much about Myra. There wasn’t much to say. He seemed to find the subject boring now, and often wondered how he had stayed married to her for over thirty years.

Anna found Rick very attractive. Their hands brushed as he poured more wine into her glass and she felt an electric shock. The sort she hadn’t felt for a very long time. She realised that she really fancied him, and that maybe, just maybe, he was the answer to her frustration.

Rick, in turn, thought that Anna was delightful. The scoop neck of her dress just hinted at the cleavage further down, but he could see that her breasts were quite ample. He was a sucker for big-breasted women, and he could feel a hard-on starting under the table, just following the line of her bust with his eyes. He loved the fact that she wasn’t stick thin and that underneath her clothing she had smooth, sensual skin and a body to sink into. Stop it, he told himself, or else he was going to be unable to get up from this table without embarrassment.

They finished their meal, and Rick managed to help her from her seat by thinking of cold water full of fish. He had no idea why this worked to dampen his ardor, but it did…

Anna had arrived by taxi, so had allowed herself quite a few glasses of wine. Rick had brought his car, so had only drunk one glass. He had supplemented it with fizzy water.

He helped her to the car, noticing that she was slightly unsteady on her feet. Anna giggled when she tripped slightly, and Rick thought it delightful that she could be quite uninhibited with him.

They got in the car. Anna told him her address, which luckily he knew the way to. They chatted companionably about her apartment and his. About living alone, and the freedom yet the loneliness.

Just as they were reaching Anna’s address, Rick wondered if she would invite him in for coffee and, if she did, what she would expect. The last thing he wanted was to overplay his hand.

They pulled up in a parking spot right outside her apartment block. Rick’s heart was beating faster, and he could feel a stirring in his groin. Would she or wouldn’t she? Should he or shouldn’t he? He felt like a gauche teenager full of excitement, yet not knowing what was going to happen.
