Jason Jachovich never dreamed he’d be sold to the psy only to be turned into a monster from an old Hollywood movie. When the psy try to use him and the other humans they had changed in a war with other paranormals, Jason manages to get free but only to watch as the others like him die in a war they didn’t want to be part of.
The Alliance is stunned to see what the psy have created in an effort to defeat the Alliance. In order to defeat the were-creatures the psy have sent to fight, the Alliance must kill them but one managed to survive. Dr. Adam Pratt is sent to study this were-creature in hopes of saving any more they come across. What he hadn’t expected was to find his mate and become willing to do anything to save him.
It felt like he was drifting on a cloud but Jason knew there was no way. If he was dead, he would be in heaven. Life just wouldn’t be that cruel if he was meant for anything better.
The sense of drifting was one he didn’t really want to give up but reality was a bitch who waited for no one. Trying to pry his eyelids open he quickly shut them again when a bright light was in front of him.
“Sorry, I was just worried about you,” Adam softly said as he put his penlight on the bedside table, or at least that’s what Jason assumed it was since he wasn’t ready to open his eyes again.
Adam’s calm, reassuring voice soothed him and he found comfort in the man caring enough to worry about him. Wait? Jason tried desperately to clear the cobwebs as he strained to remember something important but no matter how hard he tried it stayed just out of reach.
He remembered going to save his friends and then…his eyes popped open as he stared in horror at the man who betrayed him. Seeing him so close Jason scooted across the bed and promptly fell off in a tangled mess.
“Here, let me help,” Adam said as he started toward him.
Not willing to let the man anywhere near him Jason shouted, “No, I don’t need your help.” Finally getting his arms free he pushed the blankets down to his waist as he glared at Adam. “I don’t want anything from you.”
He saw the flash of hurt in Adam’s eyes but he tried to ignore it by focusing on getting his legs free of a sheet that seemed to want to stay permanently twisted around him. Kicking the offending material away from him, Jason stood on his own two feet as he continued to back away from Adam.
The guilt niggling at him for clearly hurting Adam’s feelings was pushed ruthlessly down. Jason didn’t know why he felt bad. It was Adam who drugged him after all, so why should Jason feel bad about telling the man to stay away from him?
But no matter how hard he tried to ignore it, it didn’t sit right that he’d hurt Adam. Refusing to offer an apology when he was the wronged party he turned away to stare out the at the crystal blue lake , letting its calm waters soothe his nerves. He just couldn’t stand to look into those eyes that were filled with such sadness Jason just wanted to run into his arms and offer comfort.
He heard Adam’s sigh of regret before he spoke. “Sweetheart, I know you must hate me for sedating you but I hope one day you’ll understand I didn’t have a choice.” Before Jason could respond to that blatant lie he said, “No, that’s not true. It was just I didn’t know what else to do to stop you from running.
“Alek wasn’t about to let you get away and you wouldn’t submit to him. He may be cognizant of what’s happening but he’s always told me that in the animal world things are done differently and, well,…” He heard Adam’s footsteps getting closer but Jason held himself still.
Startled that Adam was standing so close that his breath sent warm chills down the nape of his neck, Jason tried his best not to shiver at the feeling. “I just didn’t want anything to happen to you and I was afraid of what Alek might do to get you to submit.”
Adam’s nearness shouldn’t be affecting him so much but damn if Jason didn’t want to turn into the man. The fact that regret was clearly heard in the man’s words didn’t help Jason stay resolved. Maybe he should just forgive Adam. After all, if in the same position Jason wasn’t sure he wouldn’t have done the same thing.
He felt his body sway slightly just brushing up against Adam’s hard body jerking him back to reality. He couldn’t trust anybody. Hadn’t life already taught him that?
Stiffening his posture he put more resolve into his words than he felt. “I asked you to leave me alone.”
Adam sighed but didn’t move right away. Jason was sure the man was going to force him to talk. He held his breath as Adam decided, part of him pleading with the man to leave before his already weak resolve crumbled, another part of him hoping, no, begging for Adam to force the issue.
He was sick of living with no one to count on, no one to love him, no one for him to love. He wasn’t sure why he felt like Adam could be that person but he was just too afraid even to give the man a chance.
A cry fell from his lips when he felt Adam’s hands grip his shoulders and pull him back against his broad chest. “If you really want me to leave you alone I will but not until you understand what you’re giving up.”
His hand reached down to cup Jason’s hard cock, something he’d tried to hide from the man. “There’s a reason why you can’t control getting hard around me.” That soft voice in his ear was like hot chocolate and marshmallows all rolled into one—comforting.
Despite his trying to fight it Jason’s head fell back onto the man’s shoulder as Adam continued to lightly stroke his aching dick. Gods if he would just use a little more pressure Jason was sure he could have a spectacular orgasm, which was strange since Adam had only just started stroking it. Usually it took a lot longer for Jason to climax from a hand-job.
